Texas University Masdar project

Austin, Texas University Masdar project was an ambitious research, for Energy, Technology & Policy on Masdar’s green city ( Dr Webber)
According to Texas University research, by 2030 73% of the world’s energy use will be consumed in cities. The question is what if we could make completely sustainable cities, if these could be powered only through renewable energy.
It seams that Masdar city makes this goal a reality.

Samaria Gorge is located in Crete Island, South Greece.

Hiking through Samaria Gorge is about 18 km long, starting at of Omalos-White Mountains and going all the way down, on river side to the sea of Lybia Pelagos at the village of  Agia Roumeli (Southern Crete ). The view of the mountains, bird watching and the smell of herbs are amazing.


 Top 10 tips Hiking Samaria Gorge.

1.    Take the down Direction from Omalos /White Mountains to exit of Samaria Gorge at Agia Roumeli village – Lybian Pelagos . The other way around, the up direction, from the sea side up to the White Mountains, is very difficult and tiring, ( it is up to you to decide)
2.    Start early in the morning and take a light jacket with you, the temperature is low early in the morning even the summer time.
3.    Hiking or athletic shoes is a must , but take an extra pair with you, having in mind that you going downwards  through a rocky path.
4.    Walk down to river side up to Samaria old village and take there a half an hour break
5.    Don’t take long breaks after that, as

Samaria Gorge

Samaria Gorge, named as the longest gorge in Europe, with 18 kilometers total length is located in the full of natural beauties Island of Crete,in south Greece.

Samaria Gorge, starts from the altitude of 1.250m at the White mountains and ends to the South Crete at Libyan Pelagos sea. It is about to 6-8 hours walking distance to cross.

The Gorge’s width ranges from 3 meters which is the narrowest point up to 150 meters the widest
Samaria Gorge, is proclaimed as a national park fifty years ago, at 1962, aiming to protect the rare flora and fauna of the White Mountains. In the wider area of the White Mountains, have been recorded about 650 floral taxa, a great number of protected animals as the Cretan wild goat (Capra aegagrus cretica), which is the largest mammal on the island of Crete and over 200 birds, among a variety of flora and fauna protected .

 

The starting point is at  Xylokastro (wooden castle) the name became from the wooden stairs made from the locals to insure an easier, safer and faster way down through a magnificent mountains view. The path way follows the river side,up to the end to the beach. Visitors have the chance to cross the old desert town of Samaria, with the byzantine church of Secret Mary – 14th century.

Greek beaches and Marinas have been awarded by Foundation for Environmental
Education (FEE) with 394 Blue Flags for excellent water quality, succeeding the
second position worldwide among 48 countries.

Greece awarded with 394 Blue Flags for the beaches, seven more flags than 2011 and 9 Blue Flags for Marinas.

The City of Copenhagen hosted the EWEA,European Wind Energy Associations conference 2012 aiming to succeed the cooperation of Copenhageners with the energy sector.

 

During this conference,  a public fun green festival, Mindblowing Copenhagen,  organized by the City of Copenhagen and Wonderful Copenhagen, on which  more than 10.000 Copenhageners actively participated.
