Objective

The Ecotourism 2012 – Carbontour Conference aims to promote the environmental character of the tourism activities through the promotion of effective technologies and safe practices. The Conference focuses mainly on the impact of the operation of tourism accommodation units in the climate change and the attempt to reduce the relevant carbon footprint. It also aims at stimulating the interest of the tourism enterprises in planning and applying systems for the control and reduction of the energy and water consumption and the use of renewable energy sources. Special attention will be drawn on the effective solid waste and wastewater management in the tourism sector. The Conference will provide an opportunity to bring together hoteliers, tour operators, travel agents, scientists, engineers & professionals from the private sector, government departments, municipalities, research & educational institutions, being a forum for the exchange of the most recent ideas, techniques & experiences in all areas of sustainable tourism. ARKTOYROS, the non-governmental organization seeking to enhance biodiversity and sustainability in the Greek rural areas,delivered  the New  Botanical Garden in City Kefalovriso Karpenisi  on  November 20th 2012. ARKTOYROS as part of the environmental program ‘Some Forests have their own Avra’ in collaboration with the natural mineral water AVRA completed work on the creation and promotion of the Botanical Garden in Kefalovrysso, Karpenissi.
Arktouros – Kefalovriso Botanical Garden Karpenisi, on Friday, Nov. 16th, the visited representatives of all stakeholders deliver the project of the New Botanical Garden in Kefalovrysso, Karpenisi in the municipality of Karpenisi.

Ioannina University  started the first face of the recycling programe a few years ago, in 2008  within the Campus premises, facilitates the whole recycling process, while on the other hand, the idea of recycling expands further.
Special buckets have been installed in four points of the Campus for the collection of empty batteries.
The second phase, the implementation of which began in November 2009 is related  to the collection and transfer to a special recycling center, of appliances, electronics and material out of use (i.e. computers, printers, projection machines other types of electronic equipment, electrical equipment, etc.).
The collection, transport, sorting and recovery of recyclable materials from the campus of Ioannina to the industrial area, at the sorting-, packaging- and materials-transfer centre , is made by a company of mechanical recycling that cooperates with the University.

Chronologically, the last interference in the management of the Campus generated waste, is the food remaining management, generated by the student restaurant activity and the ‘ Figos ‘ restaurant of the University. These products create for the most serious problems to
