Ecocity award Municipality Byron Athens


Another Ecocity award Municipality Byron Athens, for its environmental sensitivity and actions aimed improving the quality of life of the Municipality of Byron received from the Voluntary Organization for the Urban Environment «Ecocity», the most important environmental observatory of Greece. The ceremony of this year’s awards “Oikopolis 2012″ held Tuesday afternoon at the House of Arts and Letters, Mayor Byron Chardalias Nick attended by Minister of Transport and Rector of NTUA Simos Simopoulos, the Minister of State Anthony Argyris and Inspector General Margaret Karavassili Environment, received the award for “Improving Quality of Life” for study of the Green Route project designed in our city.
Indeed, Mayor of Municipality Byron said that Ecocity award Municipality Byron Athens, was due to the study of the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources (CRES) and the expected approval of funding for the project of the Green Route, a project that will radically change the image of the city and the everyday citizens. “In the historic town of Byron, we strive daily to improve the quality of everyone’s life. Besides, this is the most significant legacy we leave to our children, “said Nick Chardalias and referred with great excitement to the effort made over the years, saying:” I want to thank this group-let me say- friends and associates who have believed and still believe in trying to do with that dream, design and implement major projects for our city. “
Meanwhile, the Mayor pointed out that “actions related to environmental protection and upgrading the quality of our lives are a daily challenge for the Byron” and stressed that “it is important to be environmental planning, continuity and consistency.”
It is important to mention that this is the third time that Ecocity award Municipality Byron Athens for its environmental sensitivity, and in 2010 won the “Model State Program Alternative Materials Recycling Separation throughout the City,” and in 2009 was awarded the “Oikopolis urban renewal” for the regeneration of the park Karaoli and Demetrius.
The Environmental Sensitivity Award “Oikopolis” is an institution that was established in 2005 by the Agency «Ecocity» to recognize and reward the environmental sensitivity and the contribution of Scientists, Institutions, Local Authorities, Business and Media.
