Syros Island

 

Syros Island or Siros  is a beautiful  Greek  island in the Cyclades, in the Aegean Sea.
It is located 78 nautical miles (144 km) south-east of Athens. The area of the island is 83.6 km2 (32 sq mi).
Syros  Island , a amazing Island  between Kythnos and Tinos, like the other Cycladic islands was inhabited from the early prehistoric times.

Excavations have brought to light finds of importance which have been a great help in the study of this ancient civilization. In dividing it up into periods, the term “Keros-Syros” is applied to that from around 2700 BC to 2300 BC. If we turn from prehistoric to historical times, we at once note the presence here too of the Ionians.

The largest towns are Ermoupoli, Ano Syros, and Vari. Ermoupoli is the capital of the island and the Cyclades.  Syros Island is the Capital of Cyclades islands having a unique and very different architecture style.   
It has always been a significant port town, and during the 19th century it was even more significant than Piraeus.

Syros Island has many point of interest, as the Town Hall, built by the famous architect Ernst Ziller in the 19th century. Visitors should also see the famous by the sea mansions Vaporia. The Ano Syros, is located up in a hill and is easily approached on food enjoining a nice walk and by the time you arrive on the top an amazing view is the big price. Ano Syros has an spectacular view, overlooking the island and further more!

Syros Island, a beautiful Island with natural beauties, unique architecture, crystal clear water beaches, tasteful cuisine, is the right island for a short weekend visit, of long holidays place!
